Thread: Gluing down vinyl

Had a piece of torn vinyl to replace so I cut a matching piece and not having any other glue on had I used Aquadhere glue. The glue worked on about 80% of the patch but one part would not stick down, after a couple of hours the glue was still liquid and hadn't set at all. Anyone know why this happens?

vinyl being a plastic will not absorb moisture from the glue you have used ,correct glue would be a solvent based glue (contact glue) selleys,tiger are some of the better known companies that make glues specifically for this purpose

yeah, sounds like you have used the PVA version which is designed for wood. Interesting, though, that it has seemed to work on some of the replacement vinyl. Is it possible that the replacement piece had a paper backing or similar porous coating on 80% of it? You also may have another variant of the Aquadhere range which has reacted/not reacted to some other surface issue.

What is the correct fix for replacing a bit of vinyl that has torn? The vinyl is simply sitting on masonite so seems to be secured only at the ends.

By the way, how does one kitchen cabinets that sit on adjustable feet, I have secured one end of a long return to wall studs but notice that I can lift the other end off the ground. I have attached kickboards through the bottom of the cabinets but they are not attached to anything else.

just line up the cabinets to where you want them then drawer around the end feet (this will give you a reference location) then screw up one of the feet and squeeze some liquid nails under it then lower it back down to the floor repeat with the other one then repeat as required

To patch vinyl double sided tape is the easiest option
