Default Installation of Range Hood - power source

We are currently having a range hood installed and the power cord has been fed up to a powerpoint that has been placed on a roof beam in the roof cavity. The range hood will then be sealed off with a bulk head.

We have been told that the placement of the power outlet etc meets the requirements of the building code. Would this be correct? It seems pretty ludicrous to me that this kind of thing would be allowed especially if you need to turn off the applicance to do any maintenance to it?

When Installed our range hood I an electrician to install a power point in the cupboard to the side of the hood, making turning the power on and off safe and simple.

The ceiling fan is also powered from the same double outlet power point.

Get it shifted, you don't want to go crawling into the roof cavity to change the light bulb, ridiculous.

    Good luck.

As far as I'm aware ( and I aint no sparky ), you can put a gpo just about anywhere you like provided it meets the relevant safety codes for protecting wiring. In the ceiling would require a stand off box and maybe conduit but its very common for gpo's to be in the ceiling for all sorts of things like vent fans in bathrooms etc.. I have seen quite a few houses with gpo's in the ceiling just for the sake of having them there. Very handy for doing work up there, for lights and tools while not having a cord running down through the manhole.

ours is the same, there is a power point in the ceiling where it's plugged in, but we also had it wired into a wall switch so we can turn off the power at the switch. ours had a dodgy motor and when the sparky came to replace it under warranty he just made sure it was turned off at the switch so he didnt have to climb into the roof to unplug it.
