Thread: Floating floor a bit to wavey

I have a Boral Silkwood floating floor over slab on ground. Looks great during winter, but come summer it rivals the big dipper at Lunar Park.

A bit too wavey !

Needless to say, whoever laid it did not leave any gaps for expansion. The main area is 11 m long by 5 m wide, with the boards aligned along the 5 m direction. The floor continues into other smaller spaces on three of the sides.

Any advice on retro-fitting gaps into this floor would be very welcomed.

Yes that is what I would normally attempt to do. Unfortunately I have recently moved into this small rural comunity and that action would likely cause yet bigger waves that I would later regret, if you get my drift.

I am thinking along the lines of a 5" grinder mounted in a jig sled to cut a trench adjecent to walls. Would this idea fly or would it fly?

Try a cheap biscuit joiner, worked for me when fixing dodgy work, also get a sharp chisel for the ends where your blade won't reach.

Good gloves,dust mask and ear and eye protection is heavily advised....

Don't attempt your fix in winter, too much pressure in the floor will make life difficult....

I’ve never done biscuit joining. Can they make a cut within 15 – 20 mm of a wall ?
I was trying to decide what season to attack it. I had thought that it might be better to do it before the floor started to buckle, ie around spring time.

Mate you could prob get close as 5mm with biscuit joiner

Sounds like a bicuit joiner is the way to go. Thanks for your tips.
