Have just recently completed a major bathroom reno in a 1970's old style chamfer board home in the hinterland behind Brisbane. Locating suppliers for the vanity, shower grate and a few other items was a nightmare! I had thought it would be just easy as there are so many bathroom shops around Brisbane. It proved fairly difficult as once we wondered away from the big name plumbing groups the experience began to become a little worrying to say the least.
What we found was that the article that you chose from the display was totally different when you picked it up; a vanity would be warped or twisted when you unpacked it at home! Our vanity went back three times; we eventually asked for the one from the display, which was very begrudgingly done. If you changed your mind or returned a product because it wasn't correct when you got it home you were hit with a restocking fee - basically 10% of the goods! So much for "discount" XXXXXXXXXXX shops; we would never ever go there again as it cost us time, totally frustration and quite a few dollars. So the big suppliers definitely win; you pay more, get a real brand but it is exactly what you take home!
Our shower grate was another crazy episode; our builder friend wanted flashing on it with stainless steel in the tray as well as the grate itself! Easy you would think! Not at all, the Discount shop grate when it got home needed a tool to pull it out of the tray; jammed tight. Hopeless for daily cleaning. The shop produced a "plumber" who told us absolute rubbish about how to fit the grate. We paid the restock fee instead and went elsewhere. The final grate was custom built for us for just a few dollars more - but hey it really makes the shower stall work wonderfully.

So I guess this is really a case of you get what you pay for; regardless of how convincing the show room looks and just how friendly the staff seem; take something back that is just poorly made in Asia and see how you are treated!
