    Default Removing carpet before painting?

    Guys

I am about to start prep work before repainting the whole house and was wondering if I should rip up the carpet before beginning?

I currently have two layers of carpet and will be getting the floors polished after the house has been painted.

The carpet has a pretty thick pile 1-2cm and part of the skirting boards are covered.

Should I rip the carpet up, prep, paint, and then get the floors done?

    Hi Jamer..
Not much to be said hear you have answered your own question..
Yes its a good idea to rip out the carpet before you paint as half of your skirting that will be seen later is currently covered bye your "Plush Pile"

It's also a good idea to finish the skirting after your floorboards have been painted as this makes it easier to sand the flooring without damaging the skirting..

    Goodluck...

Yes I would get rid of the carpet first.
As careful as you would be it would be easy to brush up against newly painted walls trying to rip up the old carpet.
You would have dust, hair, parts of carpet settling on your new walls.

Cut about 12 inches from the edge of the carpet and just pull up that part. Use the rest as a room sized drop sheet

Personally I wouldn't, and I didn't. Left the old carpet down, didn't need to use drop sheets etc. Then again we replaced the skirting boards so we prepainted them before nailing on.
