    Default exterior cieling

A big hello to everyone. Post number one from a long time browser.

I have just recently roofed a new deck (gabled with 650mm eaves) and will be shortly commencing on the cieling.
So.....the question is , can it be done in plaster,or should it be fibro?

    Cheers Tom

Use 6mm villaboard. The dampness will eventually effect the quality of water resistent plasterboard. The WR board is ok installed correctly in bathrooms in fact it is my preference over villaboard. But outside it cops a lot more weather and consistent dampness, It rarely falls down, in normal circumstances, but it does get shabby.

    BTW welcome to the board.

    Thanks for the welcome Rod.
Does villaboard use the same joining tape, set and sand methods as plaster.
I would like a clean finish, well as clean as I can make it.
Also...at what sort of distance is an expansion joint needed if any.
400 centres for metal cieling battens?

    450mm centers for the battens.

    Same process for finishing joints.

ONLY use paper tape with villaboard.

If you find the plaster is drying out to quick (villaboard sucks up the moisture) you can wet the join first. This slows the process down a bit.

On hot days it is a good idea to wet down the Villaboard before taping. The problem is when plaster dries quicker that it sets. The chemical process is not complete and the plaster will be weaker. Sometimes to the point that is powdery.
