Default Gyprock Vac sander

G'day all

Has anyone ever used one of the gyprock vac sanders? The wife and I have been doing some plastering and patching as we want to repaint the house and do it all properly.

I did the hall way and tried sanding with my orbital sander and I tell you what a bloody mess! I had dust from a_seho_e to breakfast!! and it even ceased up my vacuum and my drill just from the fine dust. My question is are those gyprock vac sanders good? I've rung around a few places to hire one and can't believe the price of the hire fee.... so was just wondering they are worth it or if there's somewhere cheap you can hire them from in and around western Sydney.

cheers
Geoff

A hand sanding float is the best method.

Have a look at this thread.

Best sanding powertool for plasterboard..?

Default Sanding friggin plasterboard

With due respect to Rod, whose answers I read with immense respect, go straight to Kennards (or yer local hire place) and hire a plasterboard sander with attached vacuum .... easily beats eating the stuff for days, esp when the bog was applied by an amateur in the first place and therefore there is a bit more to take off.

2 hints:
1. Be gentle, if you use an edge on the rotary head it will cut through to the paper quick smart;
2. Remember to switch on the vacuum, I didn't the first time ... very messy

Regards and good luck

If you choose to use these do so very gently as compleat Amateu says. Like I have said I have seen many good jobs wrecked by over use of these sanders.

I'm not against these types of tools, just against the bad use of them, the sander is the worst culprit. I had to fix some joins in a house just last weekend that were over sanded. But then again I am very picky and fussy.

Cheers Rod
