Default Internal plasterboard splitting on 90 degree corner, how do i fix?

    Hi Guys,

Attached are some photos of a crack that has developed between the joint of the plasterboard wall.

What would you recommend I do to fix it? I assume this has happened because there seems to be no tape and or metal corner strip down the join?

    Thanks for you help,

    Rich

    Default fixing cracked external angle

    Gday I am a plasterer
First pick off all the loose plaster. All of it.Any loose bits left will show thru later.
Then see if there is a metal corner angle .If so do this.
Get some small flat head nails at least 20 mm long and nail them through the metal angle, thru the plasterboard all the way into the wall stud.Do this down the loose edge of the metal, away from the corner bead.
Dont bash them in too far, just enough to stop the metal from springing up and down.
Then mix up some cornice cement and fill.dont overfill, always underfill.
wait for this to be touch dry ,scrape high spots back ,mix and fill again, this time fill to flat.wait to touch dry then apply some top coat
or multi purpose, this is the stuff you may overfill just a little.make sure you cover well past the patched area with the top/multi p.
Let dry thoroughly and sand with 180grit sandpaper.
If there is no metal angle just do the same thing but put cornice cement under the tape that has become loose at the corner ,then nail through the tape.cover with cornice cement as above.

If there is no tape (internal corner) then you will need to clean it up as Brenden says and then tape the corner. No point in repairing damge if there is no tape to hold it together in the future.
