Default Problem matching art deco plaster air vents

Hi, I need to replace a damaged plaster air vent and I am having problems sourcing an exact match. I've tried chad plaster (south Oakleigh) and they don't carry it. My plasterer has also tried Hopkins. The house is in Bentleigh.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to where to try next. Pictures of the vent are attached.

thanks,

You could try F.Vitale & sons in Essendon.

Their site is at http://www.vitale.com.au/aboutus.htm.

If they don't have what you're looking for they can make it to order (at least they could a year or two ago) because they make alot of their own stuff.

Good luck.

Liddy's and Derite were the prominent suppliers to that area back in 50's to 80's

Liddy's are no longer in business and there moulds were either destroyed or sold overseas.

That leaves Derite who are still in business. Give them a try.

Cheers Rod

Hi,

I have exactly same vents in my house (Oakleigh) and a couple of years ago I purchased these from Dunn Plastering in Alphington (brand new, which the guys did make). Two old brothers (80 plus) who might still be there or at least the son of one of the brothers.

Still haven't had luck finding them in white or yellow pages to pass on contact number but I may still have one of their catalogues - if I can find the catalogue I'll email it to you or post it on this forum (just the one page).

Cheers,

Late Deco.

LOL old Joe is over 90 and his son runs it now. They are great to deal with, even they don't know what they have in molds etc.

A month ago I was chasing up a cornice that I knew we used to make and tried Joe, he said he didn't have it. So after trying everwhere else I got joe to make it up for me.

When I went around to see him, right there in his garage was my original mold of the cornice I was looking for. Along with many other of my old molds.

All too late as the the make up was done.

When I ceased making cornice we sold our molds off to several people Joe being one. Some of those molds were unique, and some have now been copied and are main stream.

Cheers Rod

I have just had a look at the Bailey book. They have one that looks like your pic.

It is BVT026 and measures 270 X 160mm.

Bailey are in Sydney - 02 9153 9326.

VERY good to deal with and most accomodating.
