Replacing Lathe & Plaster in 1890's house

Hi,
We just started ripping out the Lathe & Plaster in one of the rooms in our pre 1900's house. Behind the Lathe & Plaster on the outside walls we expected to find insulation, but instead behind the lathe & plaster there is less then an inch of dead space then tar paper and solid wood as pictured attatched. Does anyone have any idea what's behind these boards? It appears from the window sills that the house has 6 inch studding.

It looks like the lath and plaster has been added in a renovation and the original internal lining was the boards.

So I would expect you will find the cavity of the framing. Break the boards to see if there is insulation behind them.

Bet its cold in Manitoba right now. Have a friend that lives there who is a crop duster pilot.

Yeah that's what I thought too. I will rip off all the lathe & plaster today and take one of these boards off. I wonder what kind of insualtion is behind it.

It actually isn't too cold right now. Only about -5 celsius right now.
