Question Tiling over multi-purpose joint compound?

I am aware that tiling over topping compound is a big no-no, but is the same applicable to the pre-mixed multi purpose jointing compound? It's a small area behind a toilet which I now want to tile over.
If I can't do this then any remedies for the situation? This jointing lark has been the hardest bloody part of the whole bathroom reno and I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!
(Rod are u out there???!)

Ok the answer is no!

The problem is, if you have a failure in the grout water can seep under the tile. If this happens the multi purpose (or all drying compounds) will go back to the condition as it came out of the bucket!

This will cause the tiles to let go.

The best remedy if you have already use a multi purpose is to skim coat the area with WR Taping Cement. This will seal the top coat.

If you are tanking the area with a wet seal this should not be a huge problem.

Cheers Rod

If I read this right then you are saying its OK if a waterproof membrane is put over it?

That right, It should be ok as the mebrane will protect it from water if there is a failure in the grout.

This is not best practice but I doubt it will cause you any future problems.

Cheers Rod
