| | I use a 24V panasonic hammer drill... this thing is built like a brick shhh ithouse... Is there anymore money you can squeeze out for a hammer drill? It one thing you're going to be using a lot i would go for a decent powerful one.
Makita are ment to be good... Dewalt not bad too... As for pricing for these things i am not sure. Maybe someone else with a little more intellegence can give yo a hand!
Good luck with your quest.
Cheers

| | Pugs,
As Armers has said look at Panasonic, Makita , De Walt & also Metabo.
Go for anything 18V and above. 24V is preferable in a hammer.
Probably depend on how much you are going to use it but all the new ones are Lithium ion.
You may pick up a Ni-Cad one a bit cheaper though but the charge and charge rates are nowhere near the lithiums. So if it's for ocassional use i'd go for Ni-Cad. Then on the other hand, once you gone down the path of cordless you'll always use it.
Your call now....

| | def 24 volt... there have been installers i've seen with 18v that can't even get into solid brick and use the morter as a short cut... which is @@@@ when you're trying to mount a weatherbox. But with my pana i get get through some serious brick / double brick... best was my 18mmx400mm bit bottoming out on a quad brick wall... right through it like butter
Ahhhh fun... |

| | All the above advice is OK, but voltage is less critical than amp/hr (although I agree 18v or 24v) and I haven't bought NiCd for several years. The Li Ion stuff is just too good IMO and now quite competitively priced.

| | I agree with Bloss
Li-Ion is the way to go.
I use a Milwaukee V18 Li-ion ( they do a 28volt too) with a 6.5mm bit for attaching timber battens to concrete and the drill will do a lot of holes for a charge. |
