Thumbs down Are all carport companies RIP OFFS?!

We have been given approval for a carport, plans are into council, engineering drawings for the strucutre and our CC is being issued. I've sent the sketches and designs for a open 6x5 meter colorbond carport with guttering, simple gable infill and a 3meter height restriction and companies are coming back with $8k PLUS to supply.

This is a joke. The posts are 90x90, some colorbond roofing, simple gutters and they are charging this cost??

Can anyone recommend me a carport company well priced to build as per our design, its really just a simple open carport that requires some extra strength at the front for a panel lift carport door (6meters wide)

    Thanks
    Kris

3 forum posts hmm, you come off as a bit rude. But thanks anyway

I've had 2 quotes, one was $11k and one was $8k supplied. You think they vary a bit?

Here is what was supplied by 1 carport builder:

    Gable 6000 wide x 5000 deep freestanding using :

    90 x 90 posts
    120 mm gutters
    70 x 50 trusses and purlins
    colorbond roof

Seriously, there cannot be $8k in materials there?

    Try Sydney Sheds & Garages - http://www.sydneysheds.com.au/

They supplied and installed a 5m x 8m x 3m high colorbond garage with a whirlybird, and roller doors on the front and one side for $10k. That included a bobcat doing some minor earthworks and the concrete slab!

Was 2 years ago now so prices may vary a bit, but worth at least asking for a price.
If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing

    Thanks Ronaldo, ill try them

Basically this is exactly what we want, but double width and using a sectional instead of roller door

I agree Dastrix seems pretty steep, I built a complete double garage for under $8k, I did build it myself though!
And I agree, "bklooger" didn't need to post so agressive, I reckon if you can't be positive, don't post.

Steel prices have gone a bit silly in the last couple of years but that does sound a bit steep....especially for supply only.

I've a lot of time for my local Steeline agent. Try yours....admittedly they are out at Riverstone which may not be near you.....but they'll be able to quote on all the components. http://www.steeline.com.au/riverstone/contact.html
People don't ever seem to realise that doing what's right is no guarantee against misfortune

Thanks gents! I've found a company called Centerary that make some nice carport kits in a wide range of sizes/pitches

    Awaiting a call

Might have to go the DIY if that fails and will check out Steelline!

Thanks SBD & Leeton , SBD that name cracks me up everytime I see it

Dastrix, take a look at this product by lysaght,

    http://www.bluescopesteel.com.au/go/...t-firmlok-beam

Download the brochure and span tables, Ive looked into this before and I think the price was comparable to timber taking into account you dont have to paint it. The brackets come in different pitches and everything just tek screws together.

Does it come with an engineers certificate and everything else needed to get it through council? That may explain some of the cost. If not, then it does seem pricey for just materials.
