I have to replace a garage roof (the existing roof is timber and roofing iron) and would like the new roof to use steel beams and batterns and new colourbond roofing. When I have done this before in timber I would look up the span tables and buy the appropriate materials. But I am keen to do steel as it is white ant proof. So my questions are.... Where can you get span tables for steel beams? What steel section is best to use to span 4 metres? and What are the fixing requirements needed between the steel beams and the existing brick walls? Thankyou in advance!

People don't ever seem to realise that doing what's right is no guarantee against misfortune

But if you used H2 or higher treated pine then you could simply replace what is there and still be termite proof. If the existing garage is compliant then you just do a measure and count of the existing timber work - no span table needed.

Thankyou very much, I have had a quick look and I will need some time to read it all! A job for the weekend.
