You wil need to explain a little more what it is you are wanting to do.
May be able to help then.

Welcome.
Won't all this be detailed in your approved plans??
As the songster said - It ain't necessarily so. IMO this is classic situation where you need site specific advice - and from and engineer or an experienced builder from you local area.
They will inspect the site, talk to you, and then make recommendations that meet any structural demands and your wallet and preferences. Depending upon how good is that rock base it call be all steel or all timber or a combination of both. Of course if timber then steel brackets and fixings would be used into the rock. Might cost you a few hundred initially, but will save lots of pain anguish and possibly mistakes in the long run.
You can get more info yourself though - walk or drive around and look at what has already been constructed on similar rock/ soil/ slop etc. If you see one take pics and even go up to the house and ask if you can look around - most people are happy to be helpful. That process will expand your view on what is possible, but means that when you do start your conversation with the professional you should be able to move to greater detail earlier - having already considered what you like and what's possible.
I reckon advice on here will be a poor and unreliable guide and too general even with pics - and if you more help you should put up some pics too. But as I said there are so many variables you should get specific local professional advice.![]()
I woud agree with Bloss on this one, it would be very difficult to give any help without a site insection.
Get a professional in for advice it will save you a lot of heartache in the long run.
