Red face Where to find replacement interior cladding for a 1890's cottage

I am renovating an 1890's workman's cottage in Lithgow in the Central West area of NSW. The interior walls and ceilings are cladded boards. Some of the timber boards needs to be replaced and I am trying to locate a supplier for replacement timber.

The cladding is tongue and grove ( sorry not a technical person) with the facade of the board being 4inches or 11cm and 10mm thick.

To start with I need 10 boards x 3.2 metres and 3 boards x 3.8 metres. And there are other boards to be replaced in other rooms - but not just yet!

I have loacted a heritage supplier in Sydney who quoted for pine at $5.30 a linear metre with length only coming in 5.4 metre lengths.
Is this a reasonable price? Or can anyone suggest what I should be paying and any alternative suppliers?

Not sure what you mean by cladding boards. But the T&G gives a bit of a clue. Are the joints flat or do they have a curved mould along them, or is there a v-shaped dent along the line of the joint?

Your local timber merchant should be able to do better than the sydney heritage person who will be pitching their prices at the yuppy market. Avoid anyone who uses 'heritage' as part of their marketting strategy they seem to use it as an excuse to add a markup on all goods.

Timber of any sort should be available in lengths that are multiples of 300mm, so for your needs you should be able to purchase things at 3300 and 3900, though I would be inclined to add another 300 mm to the end of those to allow for damage to the t&g in transit and handling.

I'm sure there will be somewhere closer to home than Sydney that can meet your requirements but am unfamiliar with the area. Have you tried phoning the local heritage adviser (contactable through Council)? They should be aware of local suppliers that can provide what you need.

If you come to the hunter valley you can have all the stuff I have pulled out of my cottage but to be fair, most of it was damaged coming out. I have noticed it at bunnings and mitre10 but couldn't tell you the price but it does seem readily available. You could also try your local timber merchant, if they don't stock it they should be able to get it for you, just take them a sample to measure up.

CountryGirl.....your local hardware/timber supplier should be able to source your required T&G moulding - as others have said it is pretty common.

The price you've got isn't actually too bad but the delivery will be a killer.....so see what your local bloke can source as his freight costs will be cheaper.

Doesn't need to be 'heritage' - plenty of timber yards in Lithgow as I recall from many years ago anyway. More likely VJ lining board - ie tongue & groove with one face having no chamfers and the other side having chamfers on the edges and a v groove in the centre. Some profiles can be found here http://www.hamptonandlarsson.com.au/.../mouldings.pdf and it might look like the attached?
