    Smile cement sheet cladding

I have a weatherboard garage which I intend to replace with cement sheeting
My question is can I screw the cement sheet to the weather boards instead of nailing, the sheeting will be 3000 x 1200, 4.5 thick. If I can which screws should I use. regards stan

Dumb question. Why are replacing the weatherboards?

If they are rotted then best to pull them off, not cover over the problem.

If they are still serviceable, then a well painted weatherboard looks infinitely better (IMHO) than flat cement sheeting.

I don't see why not, but you would want a screw that won't rust.

I would ask scruffydoo in this forum, Scrooz - Renovate Forums he should know.

No reason why you can't use the sheeting and common to simply cover over rather than removing. Screwing sheet can be problematic as it is very easy to crack the sheets and if you want flush finish countersinking is not always easy on cement sheets. Even nailing needs care so that the nails are going in on the high points of the weatherboards - easy to have the hammer go straight through. No need for SS - galvanised would be fine. Of course fastener length needs to be sufficient to go through both cladding types and securely into the frame.

    Thumbs up cement sheet cladding

Thankyou bedford and bloss for your advice, was thinking of drilling hole for screws to enter, I realise this is a tricky situation but wasnt sure if screwing was a practical way of doing it. many thanks for your advice, have a great day.
