Default Not enough room for architraves

    Hi,

I'm owner building and am at the stage of fittng architraves. There are a few spots where the 65mm architraves just won't fit. These are the scenarios I have so would appreciate some ideas:

    1. Door jamb is right up against wall. These are pretty much all inside built in robes so I figure a piece of quad woud solve this one.
    2. Door jamb very close to wall (under 65mm). Should I try and trim the architrave with a table saw to fit?
    3. Double windows less than 130mm apart, so an architrave on each won't fit. Should I trim both pieces half the gap and fit them back to back?

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Cheers,

    MJ

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Yes or you could run a single piece across the top of both openings, and a (eg) 120 x 12 flat section between the 2 openings.

    Good luck

But another option for #3 is to have custom archs made with the same detail on both edges at the right width. There are a few mobs around who do this, also helps with stopping cracking of the paint between 2 cut down pieces which looks cr@p...

    unanimous
depending what profile you are using you could get away with a router for the pencil edge or a table saw for your chamfered or splayed style.
A good tradesman can repair his mistakes. A bad one will tell you that he does't make any.
