I am renovating a 1930s house. We are installing a Rayburn slow combustion stove/cooker in the kitchen after having removed a cupboard that had been installed in the old fireplace in the 90s. Unfortunately the original tiles were in poor condition and have removed them. Now need to retile and after advice on best way to go about it.

The previous "mortar" the original tiles were embedded in is still attached to the brick work so figure I will remove that & then start from scratch.

Can anybody advise me if I am on the right course, or, is there a simpler way.
