    Default Split system install

ive just bought a fijitsu 3.5hp aircon of a family friend that never got around to fitting it for $1000

long story but his a older man that was told he needed aircon by his daughter so he bought one and never installed it

anyways i got some quotes to install it ranging from $500 to $1000
its going to be installed back to back and the fuse box is on the same wall 4 meters away

the bloke that quoted $500 seemed honest but does that price seem right

It sounds like a very good price to me normally it would be around $7-800

That is a very good price mate but it may be because your switchboard is not far from the split and also you want it back to back but usually it should of cost around $850 for back to backs (depending on season).

Ended up going with the install
He charged the agreed $500 and it took him about 4 hours

two things that had concerned me were that

    1. he used the old power cable as he said i would be fine to use as the old power point was a 15A socket that the old aircon ran off and its on its own circuit
    2. he didnt vac the lines just purged into the atmosphere

but i guess you get what you pay for
should i be changing the the wiring and regassing the unit

Even for $600 you should have got a legal job. The fact is if he didn't vac the lines, your unit will have no warranty if you ever get a compressor fail. You could get some one to recover the gas, vac the lines, run nitro through then regas with no gas.

Did he have a ARC licence? If so I would be reporting him.

I would say $200-300, any cheaper and you may get another cowboy.

What would be the going rate to deinstall a buggered Split system, and install a new one. The distance between the units is approx 6 metres. I am on the Gold Coast.

    Cheers
