waste pipe issue I have just had somebody around to dig some holes for me for my decking and subsequently find that he has ripped out / drilled through the waste water pipe which takes water from our guttering and I am assuming into the storm water drains. My dilemma is such that do I try and replace the pvc pipe (I think its approx 100mm) which is underground or can I branch the guttering off and into something else ie water tank? If I go for the replacement option can somebody please advise as to how I can do this?
Should be 90mm. You can get a repair coupling, or you may need two and piece of pipe, depending on the length of the break. You only need to dig around the site of the break.
Get the coupling(s) from plumbing supplies or Bunnings. Availabe in 100mm also if the pipe happens to be that size.

either way if its 90mm you will need a pair of slip sockets and a couple of bends to ofset around the hole, if its 4" you can get a couple of plumb-quicks instead of slips and then the same bends etc to get you around the hole. Why not make the bloke who smashed it fix it???????

I suggest repairing the break, if you redirect your downpipe to a new tank the tank would then need an overflow when it fills up so you still need the drain to be servicable.
is the 1 downpipe all it is picking up aswell??? you will have to repair it if it is picking up more...
I was only estimating the dimension. Do I really need to repair it as it really is a bugger to get at?

I have repaired one of the pipes with assistance taking onboard the advise given. The one repaired though is a 2nd line damaged which I noticed over the weekend.
Investigating the original pipe damaged it appears that this 90mm pvc pipe seems to slot into something slightly larger but unsure at present as I need to clear more soil away to inspect. Would this sound right and if so why?
