Default what brand of 6 gang switch would you use?

had an electrician around to quote on installing 6 exterior lights. he said i can get a couple different 6 gang switches ranging from $20 to $100.
anyone recommend a switch to get ? and whats the difference between the cheap ones and expensive ones?? will the cheap ones do the job ok?? i dont wanna spend a fortune on this job.

Just match existing. Prolly a plastic clipsal/hpm style pvc plate and switch mechs.Cheap.
Stainless plates (depending on style) are alot more.

hard to match 40 year old switches with new ones, thats my problem. i dont really care what goes in as long as its half decent and not garbage and wondering what others have to say from their experiences with cheaper stuff.

    It sometimes works out cheaper to install 2 X 3 gang switch-plates than 1 x 6 gang

The price difference is probably due to different finishes, as 2x4 mentioned.

Stick to the major brands (Clipsal, HPM etc) and it should be fine in terms of reliability. Beyond that it's just a question of appearance.

Beware of cheap and nasty stuff that isn't from a reputable manufacturer. Things like that tend to break and end up being false economy. Yes I'm an electrician.

na me joint aint that old neither. i was actually worried that the electrician putting in the clipsal safety switch was going to say that, but he said the opposite, he said the wiring was good and that it would last many more years to come.

I didn't read all posts to see if anyone mentioned this, but in my experience a 6 gang switch block may be overkill ... I mean, is there a circumstance where you will always only turn on individual lights or is it more likely that banks of 2 or 3 will always need to be turned on? I did the individual light thing on our last home and cannot recall a time where I only ever turned one or two of the exterior lights on - we had 12 in total for the front and sides + 4 more out back.

It's an Australian compliant switch I believe and more than likely precisely the same as Clipsal or HPM.
