Default Hearth for a timber deck

We want to put a wood burning fire pit on our wooden deck. What would be the best way to make a hearth for it to sit on? The pit does sit about 30cm off the ground on a metal stand. It will be exposed so whatever we use for the hearth would have to be able to sit in the weather.

Cement sheet and tile hearth may be the go.

Will one layer of cement sheet be enough. I was thinking maybe a layer of cement sheet with a nice edging around it and filling that with concrete to get the level up to about 25mm and tiling over that. Are any tiles better than others for withstanding heat.

I think concrete would need to be a lot thicker than that before it is strong enough. Two 12mm thick cement sheets to get the height would be good. I recently used travertine tiles for hearth in front of open fire and the tiler said they were fine but I don't know much about tiles. Probably if they're good/thick enough for flooring....
