Hello,

I am planning to build a deck along 2 sides of the house under the veranda (image 1) so invariably there will be a 90 degree angle involved. Bearers will be parallel to the house. How do I join the bearers at the corner?

AS1684.2 Clause 4.2.1.1 (attached) says that bearers shall be joined only over supports, so I am planning to put stumps on the 45 degree line between the two deck directions and join the bearers over those with a half-check join (image 2) at 90 degrees (image 3). Would that be correct? Is there a better way?

Thank you for any help you may be able to give.

Alex
