Does the pipe have any access points?
Hi all
I thought I was ready to go to start building a free standing deck against the side of the house (no building consent required as it's under one meter high) but I realised today that a grey water drain pipe (from the kitchen) runs under the the area I want to deck.
Does anyone know what the regulations are regarding covering the area above the pipe with a deck: Is a minimum height required (under the deck) to allow access to the pipe or am I even allowed to build a deck over the pipe?
cheers
Tim
Does the pipe have any access points?
Can you design deck with access to the gully, (drop in hatch maybe).
Yes, I can but I don't know what the building code requirements are - I suppose I can have a hinged opening across the deck to allow access to the buried pipe if the code requires it but that is what I don't know - what does the building code actually stipulate in this case where a pipe is under a structure?
If I have to get a plumber in to dig and put some sort of access point for the pipe I think I might forget about building the deck!
cheers
Tim
There are thousands of structures over grey and sewage pipes, your local council will give permission in most cases with the proviso that you are responsible to provide access if/when required.
My garden shed is on a slab over the main sewer line.
The fact is that the chances of anyone having to access the pipe in minimal in the next 80 years.
Even if there was a problem you could just unscrew a few slats.
