    Default Spotted Gum Deck - any pics...???

    Hi,
    I am looking to have a 50m2 deck built with Spotted Gum (135 x 19) for pool surrounds - but I am terrified that it will not last & I will be just throwing money away.

    The deck will be in full sun all day (Gold Coast QLD) & built on a slope, with ventilation underneath.

    I have read many posts & had a few opinions, all helpful. But the varying recommendations have me in doubt & confused??

    As they say, a picture is worth one thousand words - if anyone could please post pics of their Spotted Gum decks & if you could please include its age & how often you seal it?

    Much appreciated!

    I came across this at the timber yard on Saturday, and have to say, from what I saw I was quite impressed...

    No knowledge re: cost etc. but it sure looked the goods..

    Hardies increased the price and same time changed the aluminium joiners so they are no longer continuous under the cover strips. That was a spoiler for me as I wanted the original joiners that would have stopped water flowing through the gaps.

    Not a fan of that stuff, as when it comes time to repaint, you would have to remove the joiner covers, which I imagine would be a real pain to get out after a few years.

    Installed AZEK decking recently, and was very impressed, was easy to work with, hidden fixing design, 50 year warranty against fading, can be installed under salt water for pontoons etc.

    For QLD exposed decking I think I would choose composite for the zero maintenance

    dont do 19mmm around a pool - get some 32mm thick in the 140 size - even they cup slightly around a pool with 10mm gaps - thast what I have around my pool - 2 yrs down. i just give it cutek extreme with tint once a year (really should do it twice).

    If pool is salt, use 316 batten screws

    Boral Southern Spotted Gum is 90 x 22 as a pool surround option.

    Plenty of pics in my thread;

    Oiled it again in Feb. aprox. 6months after the first coats. It seems once a year from now on should be right.
