Default Removal of framing and forming timber in sub-floor

    Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a property and I'm new to renovating. My pre-purchase pest inspection report recommends that I do the following in order to prevent subterranean termite attack:
    1. Remove loose timber from the underfloor area
    2. Remove framing timbers in contact with the ground
    3. Remove forming timbers in place below suspended concrete floors

The loose timber could be a do-it-yourself job but I'm not sure about the rest. How important do you think it is to do 2. and 3.? What type of tradesperson would I hire and roughly how much would it cost? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Any timber in contact with the ground can be used by termites as an access point to your house timbers, so it is important to remove them. You probably need a carpenter, if the framing timbers need modifying, preferably one who won't mind crawling around under the house. Cost all depends on exactly what is involved, so I would get a couple of locals out to give you quotes.

Thanks for the advice Ken. I've removed the loose timber but I'd definitely get a builder/carpenter to look at the forming/framing timber.
