Default How do you replace the top tread on external stairs?

Hi, I'm replacing some of the hardwood treads on my external staircase. The treads are 250mm x 50mm x 1100mm. Apart from the uppermost tread, they are easy to remove and replace, by sliding the old tread out rearwards in the rebate after removing fasteners and loosening the tie rods, then reversing the procedure to install the new tread. Unfortunately, the uppermost tread's path to the rear is completely blocked by the verandah structure. What's the trick to replacing the top tread?

Getting out is easy - just cut it.
Repalcing is going to be a lot harder. You may need to use brackets on the stringers.
