    Default Locating cooktop cut out

The 470mm cutout for a 510mm cooktop, is it just centered on a std 600mm depth laminate benchtop? ie 65mm in from front and back wall?
Or does it need to be closer to the tiled splash back? Iím assuming itís the norm to cut thru the base cabinet front top brace to make a cooktop fit

I just wanted to check before I cut the hole. Just use masking tape, a drill and jigsaw for laminate?
Any type of jigsaw blade for wood will do?
    Thanks

You’ll want to bring it as forward as you can on a standard 600 deep bench.

Reason is that you can get big pots on the rear burners without hitting the splashback

Don't forget that the bench front edge overlaps the cupboard, and there's probably front rail that you cannot cut too much out of, so that is as far forward as you can go...
    And.....your point is.....what exactly?

The cooktop should have a template for the cutout and I have seen cooktops where the cutout is not centred on the cooktop.
Check the instructions for the particular cooktop you have.

Can also use a circular saw for the cuts, finish with handsaw. Use a tool you are comfortable using.
