Default Do I need yellow tongue under floor in attic?

Im renovating and finishing up an attic to make it a study. I have new joists and support beams. I was wondering if putting yellow tongue and then something like a laminate floor on top. As the ceiling will be pretty low, I was hoping to skip the yellow tongue and put floorboards directly on the joists. Are there issues with putting the floor directly on the joists?

If using proper floorboards no issue, but laminate will not be strong enough alone...insulation between ceiling and floor would be a good idea too
    And.....your point is.....what exactly?

Thanks. So my options are proper floorboards or yellow tongue + laminate/carpet/anything else. What would be the thinnest combination?

That may depend on your joist spacing.
If your budget allows you might be able to use hardwood structural ply at the minimum allowable

I think the minimum as a substrate would be 12mm at 450mm centres tho
