Identifying an existing finish Im heading down to do a maintenance job on a floor in a couple of weeks, but I am not sure what the existing finish is.
My guess is a two-pac poly. But, given that I am not going to get a look at it until the day I turn up is there anyway the client can ID the finish for me?
My problem is that he wants a solvent based poly coat, however if the original is a water based finish then it wont bind properly - am I right?
However if we go with a water based poly with a cross-linker additive then it doesnt matter if it is water based or solvent based poly?
Suggestions?

the biger issue that you will have is if the floor has been containtanded with foregin products like silcone etc.
you will need to wipe the floor before applying the coating.
we have had good luck with synteko oil this goes on well over a range of old finshses and does not reject.
Thanks Gaza, I was thinking I would need to 'wash' the floors with a metho type rinse of some sort. How can I tell if the 'cleaning products' are being removed - are there any tell tale signs?
Which of the Synteko Oils are you referring to?
