Staining Qld Maple staircase Hi, I have a new Qld Maple staircase and would like to match it to grey ironbark (rich brown colour) flooring. What would be the best way to colour the timber minimising any blotching effect and maintaining grain character. I plan to use polyurethane on top.

If you pick up a colour card for "Spirit"based stains like Wattyl Craftsman stain,and compare it to your floor colour you may get a good match.
This is a wipe on stain and is fairly simple to apply to small surface areas,then can be overcoated with a floor grade clear finish.
