Red face White wash under tung oil - what to use?

Hi all... we have sanded back an old tas oak floor ready to tung oil it.... have tried a few spots with buffed water based white paint (both ceiling and plain) Question is this ok under tung oil or should it be oil based white or something else? thanks

Default White wash under tung oil - what to use?

The problem with using any white base with tung oil is that the tung is and will yellow.
That being said I'd rather see an oil based stain with oil over top. I've used waterborne product over oil but not the other way around.

Hmm we thought tung oil "because it doesnt yellow"!? Weve used polyurethanes other times but it does eventually have to be removed whilst oil is simply recoated so we've used it alot on other stuff.

Maybe we'll have to go polyurethane tho, as we are keen to do the whitewash look

Yeah waterbased will stay clearer, whereas solvent based will tend to yellow as well.
I'd also look at trialling a square metre or two before going at the whole floor.

Try Synteko Natural with white tinting paste added, or Loba pro colour stain+sealer+tung oil
