Default Awning using old radiata pine trusses

    Hi All,

I've acquired some radiata pine trusses from an old house. They're in good condition and I'm considering building an awning/pergola style structure with them out the back.

However, they are not treated, so:

    1) Can I use them with semi-transparent smokey brown laserlite on top (i.e. exposed to some sunlight)?

    and/or

    2) Can I leave them exposed from underneath (i.e. no ceiling lining, so exposed to external air)?

In both cases, what treatment should I apply to protect them (i.e. prime/paint with what?)

    Thx heaps.

I use TWA clear wood preservative

It is a zinc-napthenate and permethrin product, needs a coat of oil-based paint on top to make it permanent

thx Moondog, I'll look into that.

Anyone else? Maybe someone who built one with untreated timber and had issues later on?
