Default Is it necessary to buzz/plane the bows out of the top of the rafters for battens

Hi guys, I’m about to put laser lite on the roof of my pergola. Just wondering if it’s necessary to plane the bows out of the top of the rafters before I put the battens on for the sheets. The front beam (gutter end) is also about 5mm out of level over 2m, wondering if I really need to rectify this. Cheers in advance for any advice or help!

What roof pitch is your pergola ?, steeper pitch will be less important than it is with minimum pitch.

Minimum recommended pitch for laser lite is 5 degree, any bows that bring sections below that pitch should be addressed.
Changes in pitch may also allow pooling and collection of dirt. Being laser light this will also be visible from below.

The out of level on the pergola beam should not cause issues unless it will reduce the roof pitch on the last span.

Thanks Droog, that does make sense. I’ll get double check the pitch of every rafter in certain spots and if it ends up being less than 5 degrees I’ll buzz the bows out.

    Thanks mate!
