    Default Pergola Price?

Hi I am wanting to build a 7.20m by 3.60m pergola to go over a leaky caravan. So I was thinking 6 2m uprights with 3.6m spans each direction? The place I'm putting it is quite windy, so will probably have to go with a gabled roof, and just put corrugated iron over the top.

I am new to building, does anyone know how much it would cost to build a pergola this big out of timber? Would it be cheaper to get a pergola kit made from steel and put that up instead?

    Cheers.

    Hi,

Timber would definitely be cheaper. If you want, send me an email to sales@demak.com.au and I'll do a rough quote for you... Daniel

Check with your local council first to see what size structure you can get away with before needing planning permission and building approvals and all that....that might be the most expensive part of the whole project!

Yeah, its above the limit for needing a permit. However its in a secluded spot with no sealed road access. I just worry once I involve the council they will charge me through the eyeballs for putting in a sealed road etc. and it would become to expensive for me to put up anything, and my caravan will become waterlogged and fall apart etc.

Awesome. Also I was thinking of building with untreated wood. So hardwood I guess. Will that blow the cost out a lot?

    Cheers.

Try "C" or "Z" purlins, be able to use smaller sections for larger spans

Thanks, I don't know what that means but thanks.

I think I'll go with something simple like this for my first attempt at building something. Hopefully it doesn't fall over.

Hardwood would be more expensive than treated pine, but can span greater distances..

    Is cypress another option..?

Haven't had a good look thru the PDF but did notice at a glance, the bracing shows only one fixing at either end. Don't think this is right. Anyway, you say it's high wind so beef up on bracing and tiedowns.
