    Default Bathroom basin waste

    Fitting a new basin and outlet. Should I just use the rubber washers/seals alone or apply silicon with them?

    really? my plumber friend told me to put silicon under and on top of the rubber seal so it squeezes out a bit when you tighten the plug in

    Get rid of the top rubber altogether and use silicone instead. If your basin has an internal overflow use some silicone before fitting the bottom rubber, then the backnut. If it doesnt have the internal overflow you needn't worry about silicone on the bottom rubber. Be sure to use sanitary grade silicone to prevent mold growing.
