    Default waterproofing shower base???

I have to install my new shower base in our new bathroom & ensuite. The base I've bought came with frameless glass doors, really nice. The thing is, the base doesn't have the usual "lip" around the wall edge, so there is nowhere for the plaster sheet to go over, and thereby be tiled over. So I'm worried that if we but the plaster straight onto the top of the shower base, with just silicone, it won't be waterproof enough.

I'm sure my tiler will be putting down the membrane waterproof stuff b4 he tiles, but is this enough???

The shower base to wall joint is critical and MUST be properly waterproofed.

What you are proposing sounds like it's outside the standards so should be avoided.

    But all is not lost

Have you looked at battening and sheeting the wall to provide the required overhang?

You could install small angles to the existing walls to ensure a double seal if need be.

    Good luck.

I'm not sure about battening, I think I'll go see a plumbing store and see what they say. Surely other people have bought this shower and had the same problem???

There are some showerbases (Marbletrend make one) that do not have a lip, however they do come with a plastic strip / flange which is attached to the base.

What brand is the base you bought and what do the instructions for it say.

    Regards Dave

hi dave, thanks for that. The supplier I bought it from sent me an email explaining the need for the "flange" although they called it something different (it's like a double sided tape???). I assume it's in with the doors which I haven't opened yet. I'd only taken the base down to the house for the builder to fit, that was when we found it had no lip, the glass is still back in storage. I think I will make progress when I open that glass box soon!
