Default Where to buy a stone slab for good value?

I am planning to replace my vanity top with a stone slab. It requires a slab of the size of 1100 X 450. Any suggestion on where I can get a good value stone and where I can get it cut? Obviously I am trying to save some $$ by fixing it myself.

Try a monumental mason - they might have an offcut (perhaps a cancelled order?).

Used to be a really good one at Lidcombe

    Thanks mate.

Can anybody give an idea on how much does it cost to get a stone slab cut for the basin recess and the holes for the mixer tap? Where can I get it done for a low cost even if I get the slab.

I found the slab will cost approx $400+ at IKEA or Bunnings, which itself is much higher than my budget. But even worse is the fee for cutting it. IKEA wont only cut. They offer an installation service including the cutting and that is charged at $550.

I have just started looking around and hope to check a few other shops soon. any input from forum members with any experience will be greatly helpful.

Not sure if you're still looking for this. I'm pretty sure there's a company in Tattersall Road at Blacktown that sells offcuts of stone. I'm assuming they also cut to size. I drive down Tattersall Road quite a bit and he often has offcuts out the front.

I just did a search on Google Maps. It's called "Young An Marble and Granite" and he specialises in Kitchen benchtops and vanities. He's at number 29. Type the address into Google maps, go to street view and you can check it out.

    No affiliation etc, etc.......

    Cheers

Last year i was doing my kitchen an bought 3 new granite slabs of ebay for $110 each, im sure you could do a cashie with a stonemason and get it done cheap. Also its fairly easy to do it yourself.

I have not been looking actively (due to sheer lack of time) but am still interested. I am not in a rush to do the project but if I get low cost options, I will still like to do it.

It is a very good info and easy for me to drive down and have a look there.
    cheers.

I will probably set up a search on ebay and let me have an update when something comes up.

I am not sure how to cut a stone slab fairly easy. Especially if it involves curved cuts. Any suggestions will be great.
