    Default DIY Roof Spraying !

Hi I'm about to undertake painting our flat metal roof (260sq mtr) and I've tested the hand painting approach and while it works, I wont by the time I've completed it - took to long...

The company I bought the paint from will rent me an Airless Spray ($7000 value) machine for $400 to do the roof and I've looked about at rentals against the idea of buying a $500 machine and Im stuck..........

Any pearls of wisdom in the offering ?

I did our tiled roof a year ago. Bought a second hand airless sprayer for $450 which I can sell when I am done with it (after a few more projects). I am happy with the result and the big saving.

You will need some good practice with spraying (even coverage, maintain a wet edge etc). I had lots of experience with an air unit. An airless puts out a ton of paint and is a lot to handle even with some experience.

As with any painting, surface preparation is the key. Don't spray when the weather is too hot and wear some cheap canvas shoes for grip and you will overspray them. Hope it goes well for you.

Is there anything about the machines I should look out for etc i know that I need a .17 tip apart from that all my spraying has been done with air.

If you can, get a nozzle extension, it will save you a lot of back ache bending forwards. Also take a wet rag onto the roof with you because paint does build up on the nozzle affecting the spray pattern.
