    Default Question about brass wall rods in Federation house

    Hi, I'm in the process of buying a Federation villa in country SA. On the walls in the main room are brass rods (apparently original), that i've not seen elsewhere. Is anyone aware if these were around in houses built around 1910? Are they just a feature or was it intended to hang something from them?
    i'm not thrilled with the colour on the walls either ... any suggestions that would match the dark wood of the skirting etc?

    They will be picture rails - and yes, you hang pictures from them. In the 19th/early 20th century people tended to have large groups of paintings covering their walls in the posher homes - and by the looks of that one, it is one of the posher sort. Leave them where they are, you will bless them when you come to figure out how to drive a picture hook into a lathe and plaster wall.
