    Default Victorian era paint?

Doing the prep for my bathroom Reno and having interesting times with walls.
stripping back the pictured wall as the acrylic paint was falling off from poor adhesion to the (yellow) Kalsomine.
The blue paint looks to be the original paint from late 1800s, and still sticks pretty well.
Has anyone experienced this and knows what primer or prep to use?

Kalsomine was designed by the devil to give painters an early taste of purgatory. Basically scrape and sand back all powdery or flakey material and apply a binder sealer and repaint. You should be able to google up product notes from the likes of Dulux or Solver. As for what is underneath you would have to assume lead as a minimum so face protection from dust is a must. I think Dulux sealer/binder still exists and should do it for you. I have experienced Kalsomine and I do not wish to deal with it again.

Yes, I have done my Kalsomine misery. Stainless steel scourer and warm water with lots of wiping down. A wall only took me 3 hours...... Happier with a wet process as I think that any paint from that time is likely to have something terrible in it.
I'll go to Solver tomorrow. I have the whole bathroom out at the moment so I don't even need a drop sheet. )
