Default Davco Powder Mastic over Ardex/Dunlop Waterproofer

I am about to tile my walls using Davco Powder Mastic adhesive over a Ardex WPM001 / Dunlop Waterproofing membrane.

I have rang Davco technical support and they have told me that as a "general rule" they cannot recommended using their adhesive over another manufacturers waterproofing membrane. I can understand their position on this.

However, on a practical level, has anyone ever done this before? I assume that it should be OK, but just want to make sure as it could potentially be an expensive & time consuming mistake.

    Thanks.

    Hi Gooner,
Personally I wouldn't use anything other than the recommend adhesive, otherwise you won't have a leg to stand on if it all goes t!ts up.

But ... you could always try and find an Ardex adhesive that matches the Davco one (in specs, type of adhesive, etc) and see if the Ardex one can be used over the WPM001. At least that may give you a guide as to it's suitability.
    Cheers.

Well I just rang Davco technical support again and spoke to someone different. This guy said no problem using the Powder Mastic on top of the Ardex WPM001. So green light on this front.

Did you get that in writing?

Why are you keen on using the Davco stuff? Do you already have it? or is it a lot cheaper than the Adrex stuff?
    Cheers.

I already have it... and my tile store has a no-return policy on adhesives, but in this case they may make an exception seeing as I originally specified the Ardex MPP anyway!

Reading the Davco Powder Mastic data sheet, it does seem like it may be more applicable to my large format tiles... but that just may come down to marketing and wording *shrug*.

I'm no tiler, so tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to compatibility. So if it was me and there is no financial penalty (or only a small one) I'd be tempted to take it back and get the MPP.

I'm not normally this cautious, but I have first hand knowledge of how expensive good quality, large format tiles are...
