Default shower hobb tiles all cracked and leaking, glue holding them on is like peanut butter

i have a shower hobb where i have to retile as its all cracked and leaking water. i have just pulled the tiles off and the glue that was used seems to be the texture of peanut butter, its not solid but flexible and im wondering what the hell has been used and why its not solid??seems waterproofing membrane is below it as well a blue colour.anyone know whats going on with this?? also, how do i get rid of all this peanut butter glue cause i doubt new glue will stick to it with this crap remaining??

also, is there any particular type of glue i need to use to glue new tiles back on??

    G'day Woza,

Floor tile and wall tile glues are not the same and glue used in wet areas can be a lot diferent to the stuff used in hallway, though not always, talk to your tile clue supplier first and avoid the pre mixed stuff that comes in a sealed drum, it can take forever to off.

You could try a little turps or other chemical cleaners but not a lot of hope. I would remove the old hob and replace it with Hebel stone and redo the waterproofing rather than risk laying more tiles only to find it still leaks.

The other alternative would be to install a 50mm angle to replace the hob altogether. You could locate so the original screen can be refitted.

    Good luck.

Looks like tubbed Mastic to me, which should never be used on a hob or a shower recess floor.

Give the hebel a miss and buy proper hob blocks which are made of solid concrete, can be sourced same place as pavers and landscaping supplies.
