You should have no problems provided it is in good condition, used as fire retardant, just chip away in a small area that can be easily filled to see it's secured well to the floor and has no major crazing.

I have just bought a flat and when I removed the carpet I discovered that the slab has been recovered with Magnesite
Can I tile over it or do i need to remove it all?...I am getting mixed answers.

go around the whole floor tapping it , checking for hollow drummy sounds. if nothing then its okay to lay on, make sure you use a suitable adhesive.
