Default Is a tiling underlay required for a shower ledge/shelf?

I have a shower ledge that will be waterproofed using a membrane and tape on the external and internal corner. Is this sufficient or is extra protection required? If further protection is required what would be the best option?

    Thank you.

What sort of shelf is it? a pre-molded inset shelf or tiles?

If tiles, then going by the AS3740 you need to line it with cement sheeting just like the rest of the shower walls. In general liquid waterproofing isn't designed to be applied directly onto wood (check manufactures requirements)........if thats what you meant?

To clarify the shelf was framed by bringing the wall out by 90mm, 1200mm high from the slab. I have currently lined it with gyprock aquacheck and was concerned that the surface of the shelf may need extra protection.
