Default Replace fence rails and pailings only?

I have 70m of treated pine fencing that needs replacing it's 30 years old and I'm in tropical Cairns, Australia so it's lived a hard life. The posts themselves are rock solid but the rails are shot and many pailings are peeling off. I have only Reserve as a neighbour so no consent is required

Is it false economy to only replace the rails and pailings and reuse the original posts? This would reduce the job to an easy diy. Including posts dramatically increases the work and cost to the point that I would need to outsource and right now tradies are charging mega bucks and have ridiculous lead times.

    Thoughts??

Only you can decide if the posts will last another ??? years

The problem with rails is timber shrinks away from the nails, so I prefer 25x25 hot dip gal box tube with battens screwed with gal or zinc screws hex head for easy fixing.

Last one I did was 1991

I still own that home and the fence is still there good as the day it was done.

A neighbour here had a fence done in hardwood about 10 years ago and I have been refixing battens for the last 4 years.

Thanks for that. Steel rails make a lot of sense as the wooden ones are 90% of the problem. Longer to install but the lifetime would be worth it.

Have you dug down about 20cm next to a post to check for any issues/deterioration with the posts below the surface?
