Default Wanting to make a pedestrian gate into a remote unlocking electronic gate -

    Hi All,

I have an idea (read -boss demands) to make our rear pedestrian gate with a basic lockable latch, into a gate that can be remotely opened by way of a video intercom system in the house.

Most electronic locks seem to work off the striker plate being the release mechanism and I personally have not seen one built for the latch style?

I think things get complicated slightly by the framework of the gate as there is not really any good fixing points to bolt on a lock and recess the striker.. I was thinking of fabricating a base plate that could be affixed to the metal frame below the exisiting latch, possibly I could fit the striker in but not too sure.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions they would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jas

    * Apologies just noticed the photos are rubbish, I will try to get a better one

You can get an electric mortice lock but they are pricey, so why not just use an electric strike with a surface mounted lock on the gate like you are thinking ?

Electric strike easy to install and standard used in a lot of applications

    Thanks Guys.

I was not certain about putting the mounted lock on the gate as I will have to build up an area on the gate so to make the latch sit flush with striker mounted to gate post. I thought of throwing a flat piece of steel on the frame and using that to mount the lock, recess the stricker into metal gate post. Might give it a bit more strength
