Default Colorbond fence into besser-block retaining wall

    Hi All,

I need to raise a colorbond fence by adding 600mm of besser block retaining wall (3 courses) at the base.

Anyone know how to do the footings for this?

I know I can put the posts into the holes in the besser block, but do I go all the way through them and set them into the ground independently, effectively meaning that the posts assist in keeping the retaining wall straight too?

    If not, what?

    Thanks Cherub,

I was hoping to avoid the fully reinforced/cantilevered route, since it's only 600 mm high.

I was wondering if minimal reo with fence posts right through the blocks into the footing would be a good option, because it transfers much of the wind forces on the fence down to the inground footings as opposed to the block wall itself. Then the need for cantilever/reo is reduced - that's what I'm hoping to get some confirmation on...

You'll need to put a geo grid fabric between the blocks and layed back into the retained soil to help resist the wall falling forward. The best option is to fill it with concrete and core drill the holes about 250mm, then use a non shrink grout for your posts - then it will never move. Its not a job you want to do twice!
