    Default Bosch Multitool Starlock Incompatibility

I bought one of these Bosch Oscillating Multitools

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/384400046243

Mine is actually the battery one.

It has the Bosch Starlock system.

I did not know that this system was special when I bought it

It turns out that the blades are much more expensive for the starlock system compared with OIS flat blades

Does anyone know if there is a way to mount regular OIS blades to Bosch?

I found links to an adapter on Chinese website AliExpress but the demo video appears to show the adapter not working (strange thing to demonstrate)

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004779405884.html

It also is not clear that this adapter is for Bosch Starlock

Strangely there is nothing on eBay at all. Only AliExpress shipping from China.

There is also a video on youtube of an Oslo firm selling an adapter but it is described as being for some Makita starlock system.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT6iQm8Hyu4

Are there multiple different incompatible starlock systems and then 1 OIS standard system?

I found these old discussions from 2018 2020 but just wondering if any new advances in compatibility have been made since then

Yep, I noted the Bosch Starlock POS problem a few years ago on here.
I have a Bosch blue MT downstairs that has been used probably 3 times because at that time you could not find the specific blades to suit the tool.

I also didn't know the issue with the tool only taking starlock blades.
I was disappointed that it was not dual compatible with regular blade lock system as well.

I think the new ones are compatible with both systems.

I hate when manufacturers come out with some "new better system" only to find it's not compatible with the older system.
This is purely a money making exercise, as they lock you into the new system so you have to purchase their accessories.

IMO, if you have the opportunity to return it, do so, and purchase a MT that will take any off the shelf blade, locking yourself into starlock is a mistake.

My AEG multitool suits generic blades etc and came with an adaptor that suits Dremel and Bosch blades. Just add the disc to the tool, with the correct side facing the blade

I managed to return the Bosch tool.

I then decided to get a BaumrAG from Edisons

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/384404905383

The EBay pictures seem to show the flat arrangement compatible with OIS blades

When I get the tool I see the BaumrAG blades have holes that line up with the OIS holes but the tool will not quite grab the OIS blades

The latch mechanism almost grabs the OIS blade but then can't quite grab it and the blade pops off

I am not sure if it is defective or incompatible by design since the blades it comes with don't have the slots that the OIS blades have

has anybody got the BaumrAG unit and can tell me whether it is supposed to be OIS compatible

I don't want to ask Edisons as it may make a return more complicated if I then have to say I want to return due to incompatibility rather than defect

Th blade with the round holes is the one that the tool comes with

    The OIS has the slots

You should have asked before purchasing anything from that shonky company.

You would have been better keeping the Bosch, Edison's are one of the most dishonest / hopeless companies I have ever dealt with.
I would NEVER buy anything from them again and happy to express this opinion to anyone considering purchasing any product from them.

The stuff they make is poor quality, over hyped in marketing being sold way above what the products can do, they have poor workmanship / fit / build quality and not really for for purpose.
They pray on the person who want's a tool, be it a chainsaw etc but only want's occasional use so can't justify buying a real brand.

Only to find the product is a poor performer and turns faulty after very little use, but usually just after warranty has finished, (what a surprise).
They don't give a diddly when you call them for assistance, and don't even stock spare parts to fix something if it goes bung.

And even want to charge you $80 for the privilege of taking a faulty machine to them to look at for repair.

I started a thread here about a tool I got burnt from them.
The old saying if it seems too goods to be true (price wise) is 100% correct for this company.

For the same price you paid, you would have been better off buying the corded Ozito from Bunnings, yes it's not as convenient.
At least it has a genuine 3 year warranty, you know Bunnings will repair or replace it for the next 3 years, and having a cord means it will last forever because there are no cheap batteries that will die.

Cheap no name cordless tools are a waste of money IMO, the batteries will almost guarantee to give up sooner or later, then you will be stuck with having to either ditch it, or purchase another battery, in this case the tools kit is $99, replacement battery $79.
So you know which option the average Joe will take, a new kit, then throw the old one away, waste of money and energy producing it, but the seller loves it as they make another sale.

I always say, unless you're using the tool every day for work, and in weird places such as in roof / under house, etc etc, then the inconvenience of a cord will be forgotten after the cheap cordless one has died.

Even on this forum I have seen posts of people who have bought Ryobi stuff, the tool has died, so they bought another one, it also dies so they buy another one, it doesn't make sense. if you are willing to purchase the tool 3 times, surely you were willing to proper one to start with.
Better option if you don't want to spend a lot, is check out Gumtree / cash converters or FB marketplace, there is a Bosch Blue corded on FB MP currently, it looks like it's in good condition $80.

Here is a good discussion on Multi tools, Multi tools in particular are one tool that you need to buy a proper branded one, the cheapies underperform, you only know this when you use a decent quality unit.

Second the opinion of the poor quality of the BaumrAG products.

If it is a particular tool that you only really want one use out of then it may be worthwhile. But for a tool you want to keep buy a name brand, even if it is Ozito from the green shed it would be better than BaumrAG

Metrix agree with what you say. I would prefer an Aldi multitool which I have, about my 4th multi the first being a green Bosch. But for batteries, I find the Aldi ones to be very good, just that the chargers fail, had 2 already but cheap to replace. Personally for good tools I stick with DeWalt. For some things Ozito does serve well.

My first concrete breaker was an Ozito, I couldn't kill it, it just ran forever, I gave it to a friend and bought a medium duty Makita (which was rubbish) the Ozito was actually better, I got rid of it bought a Bosch, and a big Hitachi.
Both have been fantastic, I will say Bosch make some dud tools, but they excel in the SDS / SDSMAX demolition hammer machines, they are fantastic, I reckon probably the best on the market in the medium / semi heavy duty series.

I have a few of them now, from smaller medium to larger, they are all great, one has a weird trigger switch but you get used to it.

I agree with the De-Walt, their stuff is very nice, a lot of thought has gone into the design / usability, same as Milwaukee, Bosch 12V mini series is fantastic, they are very ergonomic.
I got the AEG 18V Sub Mini stuff for around the house, it's ok, it's got good power, but I don't like the knurled rubber coatings on the impact, it digs into you after about 5 minutes of use.

The Bosch 12V impact is my favourite impact to use, it's so light couple it with a 6A batter and it runs for days.

Over Christmas I built a new deck at my place, and used the AEG, it was a bit painful to screw all the screws in, so I ended up using the drill as a driver, it's a nice drill.
